Wow, that actually improved my view of both people...

I always wondered why Bill Maher is taken seriously. Wasn't he the one who called the 9/11 terrorists "heroic" or calling retarded children as bright as dogs? Trying to take him seriously is like writing a literary thesis on the writings of Jackie Collins.
On top of the fact that the guy simply isn't funny...and has this know it all attitude when in fact he's known for dating women a third or half his age.

Religion is a neurological disorder because they are closed off to reason? That's a pretty broad definition of disorder. Surely it's not just religious people who are closed off to reason.

I'm sorry to say... it's idiots like Bill Maher that make sure I don't identify as an atheist.

Though Huckabee believes some silly things, he is a much more respectable person. As faith is understood more and more in Huckabee's terms instead of fundamentalist types like Bill Maher characterizes all of religious believers.

Maher simply said it was stupid to call the 9/11 terrorists "cowards." He wasn't calling them heroic.

Nephtuli:

I agree it's not a neurological disorder. At worst it's a psychological one. ;-)

FUP:

Maher identifies as an agnostic, not an atheist.

You're right that he doesn't identify as an atheist. Not sure about the agnostic part... I've heard him say something about "rationalist."

Anyhow... Maher's style of religion bashing and caricaturing is tasteless and makes the non-religious crowd look bigoted.

Why the big fear of atheism, or the questioning of religious beliefs? I'm an athiest, but, like most Americans, I work very hard at my job in the belief that if I work hard, I can help make life better for everyone. I love my wife, I love my childen, I provide for them, and I treat my neighbors with respect. I believe that most people in the world are good people, and that the ones who appear to be "evil" are simply subject to the unquestioning dogma that has disasterous consequences for humanity, and that many Christians in this country are subject to. I put science in front of faith, and in doing so, I am confident that I follow a much more informed view of reality than those who believe in the literality of ancient writings. How is that a threat to those who believe that God created the Earth in 6 days, 6,000 years ago? You can continue to believe what you believe, just don't take away my right to practice scientific inquiry.

then why are u living? what is the point of ur life? where do u go when u die? oh that's right, u will die, and eventually decay into dirt. So i guess its appropriate to say that ur no better than dirt.

Bill Maher's movie was very very sad.

I'm a muslim and frankly it was kind of obvious this guy didn't do his Islam 101. Its like a typical christian creation telling Richard Dawkins evolution is wrong, and the world is 6000 years old.
